Huddersfield Town given extra motivation to keep pressure on despite Bournemouth comeback

It’s always the hope that kills you. Just as we were agog wondering if the south coast were about to become unmoored from their seemingly unshakeable firmament and end up all lost at sea, a forgotten giant emerged from the mist to push them back to shore.

Kieffer Moore’s two goals either side of a Dominic Solanke penalty meant Scott Parker’s side rescued a point away to Swansea, and while that point does not particularly change the task facing Nottingham Forest – who visit the Vitality Stadium next Tuesday in the final and most crucial of all the Championship games in hand – it could make a world of difference to Huddersfield Town.

Had Bournemouth not mounted that incredible late comeback, Carlos Corberan’s side would have been just two points behind them; just one more result for each side away from overtaking them. But with a three-point gap supplemented by an insurmountable 16 goals in goal difference, any faint chance Town had of claiming that final automatic promotion place would now require Bournemouth to falter in all three of their remaining games – all while hoping Forest do them an additional favour somewhere along the way too.

Steve Cooper’s side are now ahead of Town too after beating Fulham, level on points with the Terriers but exactly as much better off on goal difference as Bournemouth are. Unfortunately, if anyone is going to overthrow Bournemouth at this latest of stages of the season, it looks like being them.
