Howe delivers big behind-the-scenes Newcastle claim that’ll surely have fans buzzing - opinion

Having spent a significant amount of money on bringing new players to the club during the recent January transfer window, Newcastle United are now set to take on the challenge of avoiding relegation by the end of the season.

However, even though the January window has now closed, it seems as though the Toon supporters can rest east over the future of one of their key players for the time being.

According to Toon manager Eddie Howe, the Tyneside club have no intention of selling winger Allan Saint-Maximin, who has been linked with a move away from St. James’ Park in the past.

Speaking in his recent press conference ahead of Newcastle’s Premier League match against Aston Villa, Howe had this to say on the matter.

He said: “There is no intention to lose Maxi. No indication that his head is anywhere but Newcastle and elevating us out of the difficulties we are in. He loves playing at St James’ Park and is idolised by the fans. It is key we help improve him. Find an edge to make his game better and he will enjoy a great career and be here many years.”

Newcastle signed the Frenchman back in the 2019 summer transfer window from OGC Nice in a deal worth an initial fee of £16.5m. Since then, the 24-year-old has gone on to make 80 appearances for the Magpies across all competitions, scoring 12 goals and providing 14 assists along the way.

This season has proved just how important the attacker is for the Toon by racking up five goals, three assists and an overall performance rating of 7.26/10, making him their second-highest rated player in the Premier League according to WhoScored.

This shows why a lot of Newcastle fans will be delighted to hear that the club have no intention of letting Saint-Maximin leave anytime soon.
