How Sheffield United's international players fared over the weekend

There were a handful of Sheffield United players in international action this weekend as the majority of their team-mates took advantage of a welcome break. Of the six Blades to be selected for their respective countries, there were three starts and no defeats for any of those involved.

Firstly, as Wales secured a famous victory on Thursday evening to move within one match of the World Cup finals in Qatar both Adam Davies and Rhys Norrington-Davies watched on from the bench. Wales host Czech Republic in a friendly on Tuesday and the pair may feature if Robert Page decides to rest the players who played in the high pressure tie on Thursday.

Morgan Gibbs-White was able to play more of a starring role on Friday night as he started and scored in the England U21s convincing 4-1 win against Andorra U21s. The Wolves loanee stabbed in his side’s third goal at the Vitality Stadium after Folarin Balogun initially saw his shot saved.

Sander Berge was also in action on Friday as he was handed his 25th international cap in Norway’s 2-0 victory against Slovakia. Goals from Erling Haaland and Martin Odegaard capped off a strong return to the fold for the Blades midfielder in his first appearance for his country in almost 18 months.

The weekend of international action for United players was wrapped up nicely as Republic of Ireland twice came from behind to earn an impressive 2-2 draw with FIFA’s number one ranked team Belgium. John Egan was one of the stand-out players on the night, playing the full 90 minutes.
