How Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick's records at Man United this season compare

It has been a season to forget for Manchester United. Poor form, a growing disconnection between players and fans and protests against the owners have all played their part. There have been two managers; club legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and current interim manager Ralf Rangnick who took over in late November.

United are currently in sixth place and Champions League football looks extremely unlikely for next season following back to back defeats at Liverpool and Arsenal. But how do the two managers' records look this season?

There has been debate among United fans over how effective Rangnick has been, and whether the club were justified in sacking Solskjaer. So MEN Sport takes a look at their records here.

Solskjaer managed 12 Premier League games before he was sacked, with the lowest point being a 5-0 home defeat to rivals Liverpool back in October. This saw him serenaded by the travelling supporters singing “Ole’s at the wheel” — mocking the chant that was sung in a positive way by United supporters in previous seasons.

Over those 12 games Solskjaer only managed to win five, drawing two and losing the other five. That means he left United with an average of 1.42 points per match in the Premier League this season.

He was able to help guide the club out of the Champions League group stages, thanks to several late goals from Cristiano Ronald. In the four games he took charge in Europe, he recorded 1.75 points per game.

When the Norwegian was sacked, United were in eighth place. Michael Carrick was caretaker manager for two games — a win over Villarreal and a draw with Chelsea — before Rangnick was named as interim manager.
