How Man United could line up under Xavi with two big-money transfers completed

Manchester United have been linked with Xavi amid pressure on Erik ten Hag sparking speculation about potential changes to the starting line-up.

Despite Ten Hag being permitted to bring in new signings worth £200m over the summer, the club is yet to hit top form and they could struggle to finish in the Premier League's top four this term. United are still languishing in the lower half of the table, even after their victory over Brentford on Saturday, and have netted fewer league goals than Wolves, who are currently at the bottom of the table.

Xavi, now a free agent after ending his tenure with the La Liga club last season, could be a less costly option for United as they wouldn't need to pay hefty compensation and the former midfielder has been linked in some quarters with a move to Old Trafford.

However, he may wish to bring in his own signings. During his time at Camp Nou, Xavi oversaw several high-profile signings, including Ferran Torres and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in his first January window in 2022.

Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha were among the costly arrivals in the subsequent window, with Ilkay Gundogan joining on a free transfer 12 months later, while notable loans included Joao Cancelo and Joao Felix. Below, is a look at what United under Xavi could look like...

After a shaky start, Andre Onana has emerged as one of United's key players. His ball-handling skills were a significant factor in Ten Hag's decision to sign him, something that should also appeal to Xavi.
