How is ex-Derby County player Raul Albentosa getting on these days?

Derby County’s record in the transfer market has been very underwhelming over the years, which has contributed to the position they find themselves in right now.

One player who certainly didn’t hit the heights expected was Raul Albentosa, a Spanish defender or defensive midfielder who arrived from Elche for around £500,000 in the January window back in 2015.

Having played in La Liga, there was a hope that he could provide extra steel, along with quality on the ball, to help take the Rams back to the Premier League.

However, it’s fair to say Albentosa’s time in England didn’t go to plan. He managed just eight appearances for Derby before he returned to Spain, initially on loan with Malaga.

A permanent switch, this time to Deportivo, was sorted in the summer of 2016, ending an 18-month spell where Albentosa was contracted to the club.

His time with Depor was not ideal, as the club suffered relegation to the second division and with injuries restricting the impact he could make, the former Rams man would be on the move again.

An unsuccessful loan to Gimnastic followed, but that would last six months until the deal was cut short and his contract was terminated, allowing Albentosa to leave on a free transfer.

That would signal a change in country for the defender, who ended up joining CSKA Sofia in Bulgaria. That was a short stint, as he had joined FC Dinamo București in Romania a year later.

Again, it would be a one year stay, with Albentosa a free agent going into this season and he would have to wait until January 2022 until he found his next club, which was Velje in Denmark.

Now 33-years-old, he has made an instant impact in the Danish top-flight, scoring one goal and registering one assist in his first five
