'How I lost four stone after lunchtime butties left me struggling to put my socks on'

A dad whose lunchtime butty habit saw his weight balloon has revealed how he managed to shed four stone in just four months.

Anthony Renshaw, from Gorton, was left struggling to put his socks on after he gained weight following a career change.

The 43-year-old had previously been very active in his job as a postman but quit to become an Openreach engineer three years ago.

The lack of exercise, combined with his love of lunchtime butties, saw the dad-of-three quickly pile on the pounds – eventually tipping the scales at 18st 1lbs.

Feeling unhappy in his appearance, Anthony knew he had to make a change when he could no longer fit into his clothes.

That’s when the dad decided to sign up to his local Slimming World group, going on to have an incredible weight loss transformation.

Combining the food optimising plan with Couch to 5k, a running app for beginners, Anthony watched as the weight dropped off, eventually getting down to an incredible 14st 4lbs in just 16 weeks.

“I feel fantastic, mentally and physically,” he told the Manchester Evening News. “I just wasn’t happy and clothes that used to fit me didn’t fit anymore.

“I just thought I needed some help. I tried to lose weight by myself before and it never worked.”

Anthony, who joined Slimming World back in February, says another major reason he put weight on was not prepping meals. “At dinner at work, I would just buy stuff,” he said. “Now I meal prep all my lunches and make my breakfast and lunch the evening before.

“I wanted to slim down. I was feeling rough within myself, I didn’t feel fit and I was struggling. Just putting my socks on was a chore.
