How Cristiano Ronaldo could play a role in Manchester United pursuit of Adrien Rabiot
Cristiano Ronaldo could play an unlikely role in Manchester United's pursuit of Adrien Rabiot.
United’s links with the midfielder have proved unpopular amongst fans, who were already unnerved by their club’s former pursuit of Marko Arnautovic. Erik ten Hag is sticking with his chase of Frenkie de Jong but the club are looking at alternatives.
In the meantime, the United boss is dealing with Ronaldo’s exit wish as well as trying to strengthen his attacking options. However, the 37-year-old has not ruled himself out of selection in the midst of this.

His transfer request has been met with varied reactions but he doesn’t seem to have lessened his work rate in training as he works his way back to peak fitness. And this intense mental mindset is what Rabiot admired about Ronaldo.
Speaking to Sport in 2021, the Frenchman revealed what he had learnt from playing and training alongside Ronaldo, and given his admiration for the five-time Ballon d'Or winner, his presence at Old Trafford could be enough to persuade Rabiot to move.
“Since I have worked with Cristiano, he has shown great rigour in his daily work. We often repeat it, but there is no secret," Rabiot said.
“It cannot be learned, it is a state of mind, a matter of will. This is what I get from him on a daily basis, this desire to stay focused on his athletic performance. “At his age, he plays almost every game, which accumulates fatigue, a real energy expenditure and yet he always responds. His unwavering determination is exemplary.”
