Lionel Messi was finally unveiled as an Inter Miami player at the weekend and his debut for the club is now fast approaching.

Messi has joined Inter Miami on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain until 2025 after he turned down a move to the Saudi Pro League. The move had been known for some time but was officially announced in a glitzy ceremony on Sunday evening.

The Argentinian superstar made the move to David Beckham's Miami-based club after months of speculation about where the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner would move to next. Beckham is a stakeholder in the MLS outfit and helped complete the monumental deal which is the biggest in the league's history.

The move is expected to propel the popularity of the MLS to new heights as, despite the fact it's a league that's been growing in stature for some time, the former Barcelona man's decision to choose the MLS is without doubt its biggest acquisition to date. All eyes are now on his potential debut which is tipped to be against Cruz Azul this weekend.

As the move was confirmed, Messi said: “I’m very excited to start this next step in my career with Inter Miami and in the United States. This is a fantastic opportunity and together we will continue to build this beautiful project. The idea is to work together to achieve the objectives we set, and I’m very eager to start helping here in my new home.”
