How a $370 billion U.S. investment and partnership with the UK is accelerating global climate action

Climate change threatens our planet in too many ways to mention.

It causes extreme heat and extreme cold, the swelling of our oceans and the scarcity of our drinking water, droughts and floods, wildfires and hurricanes, the loss of biodiversity and the collapse of ecosystems.

In 2023, the Earth had three of the hottest days ever recorded in at least 125,000 years.

With so many possible threats to the earth, discussions about climate change can be disheartening. But there is important work being done to combat it - and the United States Embassy in London is reassuring Brits that U.S. efforts will have a positive impact on us, too.

The U.S. Government has launched a host of ambitious initiatives to drive down the costs of green technologies. The United States believes these programs will help it meet U.S. climate goals and turbocharge the green energy revolution both in the United States and around the world.

Just over a year old, the U.S. climate action law, called the Inflation Reduction Act, is the largest investment in clean energy ever, and advances President Biden’s target to cut U.S. emissions by 50-52 percent below 2005 levels by 2030. The U.S. government is making green technologies more accessible and moreaffordable - from efficient electric heat pumps to rooftop solar panels and battery storage. It is hoped that this will help lower the costs of these technologies and facilitate and incentivize more rapid transitions to clean energy around the world.

President Biden has set forth a bold climate agenda, and has vigorously advanced policies to achieve his commitment to eliminate U.S. greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

As part of that agenda, President Biden signed into law the Inflation Reduction Act last year.
