Tennis player Elina Svitolina and swimmer Mykhailo Romanchuk will carry the flag of Ukraine at the opening of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris (France).

"On July 26, the opening ceremony of the XXXIII Olympiad Games will be held in Paris, France. The flag of Ukraine will be carried by the winners of the previous Olympic Games in Tokyo: tennis player Elina Svitolina and swimmer Mykhailo Romanchuk," the National Olympic Committee said.

It is noted that traditionally the participating countries have two flag bearers at once - a woman and a man, this is due to the active position of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in upholding the principles of gender equality.

"The organizers note that the 2024 Olympic Games are gender balanced for the first time in history (50% of women and 50% of men)," the Committee added.

As reported, the Summer Olympic Games in Paris will be held from July 26 to August 11. Ukrainian athletes have received 124 licenses to participate in the 2024 Olympics.

The Ukrainian national team of 140 athletes will be represented in 26 out of 32 disciplines: badminton, boxing, freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling, breaking, weightlifting, cycling (mountain bike and highway), rowing slalom, rowing and canoeing, gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, judo, athletics, artistic swimming, swimming, rock climbing, diving, archery, bench shooting, bullet shooting, modern pentathlon, tennis, table tennis, fencing and football.
