Hibs in transfer tussle with Motherwell as club keen on 'luring' new defender to Easter Road

Hibs are reportedly locked in a battle with Motherwell and English League One side Portsmouth for the services of defender Terell Thomas.

The 26-year-old is hunting a new club after his release from Championship club Reading and there is interest north of the border. Hampshire Live report that Portsmouth are one English side keen on him but both Hibs and fellow Premiership outfit Motherwell are keen on 'luring' Thomas to Scotland. A centre-back, he has taken part in Pompey's past two friendly matches against Bristol City and Gillingham.

It's been a busy summer in Leith with David Marshall, Nohan Kenneh, Rocky Bushiri, Lewis Miller, Momodou Bojang, Kyle McClelland, Aiden McGeady, Marijan Cabraja, Ellie Youan and Jair Tavares all joining under new boss Lee Johnson. His side are back in Premier Sports Cup action against Bonnyrigg Rose today after a dismal defeat to League One side Falkirk earlier this week.

Johnson said: “We have to show an A-grade attitude. Bonnyrigg have done really well in the last year, they’re way above their level in terms of the quality players they’ve got.

“We’ve got good players and I’m sure it’ll be a brilliant day, but it’ll only be a brilliant day if we show that A-grade attitude and win the game.

"You’ll start to see the squad narrow and some younger players head out on loan. Now it is all about result and performance.”
