Herne Bay manager Steve Lovell and son-assistant Mark Lovell to remain in charge for 2024/25 season; Ex-Lordswood boss Matt Barman takes over as club chairman

Steve Lovell is set to remain in charge of Herne Bay for the 2024/25 season - working under a new board.

Experienced Welshman Lovell, 63, and son-assistant Mark Lovell built a new-look squad for 2023/24 on limited resources and secured an eighth-placed Isthmian South East finish, narrowly missing out on the play-offs.

A club statement on Tuesday evening revealed they will work alongside three new directors, headed up by ex-Lordswood manager - and former Whitstable reserves boss - Matt Barman as the club’s new chairman.

“Matt has taken the previously vacant seat as chairman in order to enhance and develop ideas and projects to give the club a more stabilised financial position, on and off the field,” the statement read.

“He has a great deal of experience, not only in football, but also in business and his ideas and creative input will help drive Herne Bay Football Club forward.

“In one of his first acts as chairman, he has provided a loan that will help stabilise the club after a turbulent year financially.

“Secondly, Chloe Gardner - who I’m sure requires no introduction - (has joined the board).

“Her dedication and enthusiasm knows no bounds, and her experience and knowledge of the club will ensure we continue to make progress as we push onwards and upwards.

“Our third new addition to the board is Jeff Hammond, who is a regular supporter and sponsor of the club, who will offer some much needed support to the current board who have worked tirelessly over recent years to ensure Herne Bay Football Club remains competitive - both on and off the field.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our wonderful volunteers - without whom, we would not be where we are today.”
