After he was reported to be missing, police and specialist resources carried out searches across Platt Bridge and the surrounding areas, including a stretch of the Leeds-Liverpool Canal.

Following David's death, heartbreaking tributes were shared across social media, remembering him as a 'genuine and no nonsense' man who was 'lovely and caring'.

Specialist officers are now providing support to Mr Edmonds' family, GMP said. A file will be prepared for a coroner in due course.

Friend Johnny Finn penned a tribute, as he posted: "RIP David Edmonds. Rest easy my friend. Sadly I have to announce that David was recovered from Horrocks Flash, near his home in Platt Bridge, earlier today.
