‘He will be a world champion’ – Ronnie O’Sullivan adores duo who play snooker ‘the right way’

Ronnie O’Sullivan says he’d pay to watch the likes of fellow pros Wu Yize and Ashley Hugill and is topping the former to become a world champion one day.

The Rocket defeated Hugill, the world No. 81, 5-2 at the BetVictor European Masters as the six-time world champion continues his dazzling form at the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes this week.

Hugill had beaten top 20 seeds Jack Lisowski and Ali Carter to reach the last-16 but O’Sullivan made him pay for several mistakes and ultimately ended the 27-year-old’s title bid.

O’Sullivan, who is aiming to win the competition for the first time since 2003, has put in some memorable performances so far this week and his victories over Hugill and Wu Yize have been his favourite due to the way they play the sport.

O’Sullivan beat 18-year old Wu Yize 5-1 in Wednesday’s afternoon session but the Chinese teenager clearly left a lasting impression on him.

‘A big shout out to Ashley Hugill. He’s 27, so not very young in snooker terms, but a very good player and still not very experienced in tour terms,’ he said.

‘He has a lot of good qualities, and I’m not one for giving out compliments unless they are deserved. The same as Wu Yize earlier in the week, he will be a world champion if he develops and gets good advice.

‘There is a right way and a wrong way to play a sport, and they both play snooker the right way. You might win, but if you do it in the wrong way you ain’t getting my eyeballs. It’s the way you do it, sometimes. You have good players, great players and exceptional players.

‘And even some exceptional players win tournaments but are not great to watch. And you get good players that don’t win so many events but I’d pay to watch them, because they play the game the right way.
