'He was not a saint but had a massive heart': Family of convicted murderer stabbed to death in prison pay tribute

The family of a convicted murderer who died after he was stabbed behind bars in prison while serving a life sentence have paid tribute to him.

Stephen Strutt, who was 42, was jailed for life in 2021 after he was convicted of the murder in June 2020 of dad Warren Glover in a revenge attack.

He was taken to hospital in a critical condition following reports of a stabbing inside HMP Dovegate, near Uttoxeter, on Saturday July, 13, but died as a result of his injuries. A man, a fellow prisoner, has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

"He was not a saint by any means, but he was loyal to his family and his friends. He was such a big personality."

In an update on Friday, Staffordshire Police said: "A 46-year-old man, of HMP Dovegate, was arrested on suspicion of murder. He has been released on bail back to prison while our investigation continues."
