'He used to go to the villages': Baloyi knows Zwane will fight tooth and nail for Chiefs success

Kaizer Chiefs went all out to unveil Arthur Zwane as the new head coach of the Sowetan club this week.

They don't often do that, especially over the past three to four years.

Usually, a statement via their social media platforms and website did the trick, but this time around, it was different – they went the extra mile for one of their own.

After 22 years of service as a player, youth coach and assistant coach to Gavin Hunt and Stuart Baxter, "10111" as he is affectionately known in the football fraternity, finally got the role everyone has backed him for since he got a place in the dugout.

"I'd say it is long overdue. We've been advocating for it to happen, not only for Arthur, but we've been advocating that Chiefs must get a South African as a coach," legendary Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brian Baloyi told Sport24 in an exclusive interview.

Baloyi, who donned Chiefs colours for 11 years, played with Zwane in the same team for five years before the goalkeeper joined Mamelodi Sundowns.

The now 48-year-old retired shot-stopper says that the appointment gives him the sense that Chiefs are following in the footsteps of Europe’s biggest clubs.

He also added that Chiefs are finally giving their own a chance at the big job, who have been in the system for years.
