'He's having quite the rise' - Manchester United fans react to Anthony Elanga's debut for Sweden

Manchester United fans have not had a lot to celebrate this season. Their side are out of every cup competition and look unlikely to secure a top-four spot - it's a struggle to find any positives.

However, one bright spark has been the emergence of Anthony Elanga under Ralf Rangnick. Though the winger was given his United debut by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, it's under the German where we've truly seen him flourish.

Elanga's movement is one of his strongest attributes, coupled with his intelligence off the ball. His good form has seen him receive his first senior call-up to the Sweden national team. Elanga had been representing Sweden at Under-20 level earlier this season, but it seems manager Janne Andersson was impressed enough to add him to the senior team.

Elanga could have represented England, having spent most of his youth career here, or Cameroon. The United youngster said of his call-up: “I was born in Sweden, I spent 75 per cent of my life here and Sweden means a lot to me. Everyone knows that I could have represented Cameroon and England but, for me, it was always Sweden. It is a dream to represent Sweden at this level.”

It seems Elanga has also impressed Zlatan Ibrahimovic, with the former United striker saying: “A great talent, we are proud and happy that he comes from Sweden. That he can represent Sweden now makes it even bigger.

"He has all the future ahead of him, and if he continues just as he has done, it looks positive. It's just fighting, never being happy, striving for more. It depends on him, how far he can develop.”
