‘He’s an alien!’ – LeBron James gives his verdict on 7ft4in teenage phenom Victor Wembanyama

LeBron James has described 18-year-old basketball sensation Victor Wembanyama as ‘an alien’ and believes he is destined for the top – though has encouraged him to stay off social media.

The 7ft4in French teenager has become an overnight sensation after posting 37 points in a G-League face-off with another potential number one NBA draft pick for 2023 in Scoot Henderson, who posted 29 points himself.

Wembanyama’s easy grace on the court belies his enormous frame – and 8ft wingspan – and Los Angeles Lakers star James was just as blown away by the prodigy as everyone else who saw him.

Asked if he had watched Wembanyama’s performance and whether he had any advice for the phenom, James replied: ‘I did. What do I think about him? I think probably the same as what everybody else thinks.

‘Everybody goes on about this unicorn thing, everyone’s been a unicorn over the last few years – but he’s more like an alien!

‘I’ve never seen, no-one has ever seen anyone as tall as he is but as fluid and as graceful as he is out on the floor.

‘I mean at 7ft4 or 7ft5 or 7ft3 – whatever the case may be – his ability to put the ball on the floor, shoot step-back jumpers out of the post, step-back threes, catch-and-shoot threes, block shots.

‘He’s for sure a generational talent and hopefully he continues to stay healthy, that’s the most important for him personally.

‘You can tell he loves the game, he was smiling a lot playing the game last night. I think it was the two best players in the draft on the floor last night, they both did their thing.

‘But he’s a big-time player and Scoot is a big-time player as well.
