"He's a player they admire" - talkSPORT reporter drops Tottenham transfer claim on Newcastle ace

Tottenham “admire” Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin, claims talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook.

However, according to the journalist, the 25-year-old would cost the north London club a lot of money if they tried to sign him this summer.

Last month, The Athletic claimed that Tottenham, along with their London rivals Chelsea, had made an enquiry through an intermediary about signing Saint-Maximin.

Back in April, the Mail on Sunday reported that Newcastle were open to selling the Frenchman but wanted £50m to part ways with him.

It is clearly a fee no club wants to pay, with the likes of Chelsea or Tottenham yet to make an offer for Saint-Maximin.

But with the transfer window still open, perhaps something could happen later down the line.

Crook has told GIVEMESPORT that Saint-Maximin is a player who Tottenham like but he would be a very expensive purchase.

Speaking to GMS, the talkSPORT reporter said: “He’s a player they admire. Newcastle wouldn’t totally rule out selling him. But he’s a fans’ favourite; they’d want a lot of money.”

For £50m, probably not. Saint-Maximin’s stats would suggest that he is not better than the options Spurs already have.

He is clearly an incredible dribbler. Last season, no player in the Premier League managed to complete more dribbles per game than the former Nice man, who averaged 4.3 (via WhoScored).

However, in that campaign, he scored just five goals, which was obviously fewer than what Harry Kane and Son Heung-min managed.

Saint-Maximin, though, was also outscored by Richarlison, who netted 10 times for Everton, while Dejan Kulusevski recorded the same amount as the Newcastle star despite having only arrived at Hotspur Way in January.
