Dimitar Berbatov has defended under-fire Cristiano Ronaldo and urged fans to let the Manchester United forward do his stuff.

Ronaldo’s return to Old Trafford was the story of the summer transfer window. The Portugal international is considered one of the greatest players of all time. And the sight of their former hero wearing red once again prompted Red Devils fans to dream of a title challenge.

There have been glimpses of his talent but it has been a bumpy road at times back at the Theatre of Dreams. Accusations of dressing room unrest have blighted the season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was replaced by Ralf Rangnick but rumours of an unhappy squad will not go away. United have looked disjointed, with many world-class stars but a lack of cohesion and team spirit.

They are currently fourth in the Premier League table. But qualifying for the Champions League will be tough. Arsenal are just two points behind with three games in hand.

Fingers have been pointed at Ronaldo and his lack of goals over the past few weeks. But ex-United striker Berbatov is having none of it and feels people just need to look at his record for reassurance about the future.

“Everything that he has achieved in football isn’t because of luck, he knows what he is doing, and he will know that he will need to produce more at the moment and trust me, that will drive him forward,” he told Betfair, per The Evening Standard.

“People need to get off his back and let him get on with it.”

Ronaldo has won virtually everything the game has to offer at club level. He and Lionel Messi are considered streets ahead of any other players in the modern era.
