'He is too good!' — Manchester United fans send Facundo Pellistri message after Uruguay heroic

A number of Manchester United supporters are keen to see Facundo Pellistri awarded an opportunity to try and impress Erik ten Hag this summer after starring in Uruguay's 3-0 win over Mexico on Thursday night.

The 20-year-old grabbed a superb assist as goals from outgoing United striker Edinson Cavani (two) and Matias Vecino sealed a comfortable win for Diego Alonso's side, ensuring they made the perfect start to this upcoming period of international fixtures. They face the USA on Sunday and will then lock horns with Jamaica the following Saturday.

Despite failing to make his mark during his season-long loan stint at Spanish side Alaves, Pellistri has been a regular fixture for Uruguay this calendar year, starting four of their five matches in 2022. He failed to score or register a single assist in 23 games for Alaves, but now has three assists in just four caps for his country.

His latest assist came via some terrific wing-play right at the start of the second-half, as he burst down the right-wing, left Jesus Angulo on the turf and picked out Cavani with a low pass to stroke home his first goal of the night with a first-time finish. It was a wonderful piece of old fashioned wing-play from the United youngster.

It left many wondering why he never got many chances to impress at Alaves. But even though he struggled to impose himself in Spain, United's supporters who saw the assist against Mexico were hugely impressed, calling for him to be retained by Ten Hag next season, opposed to being sent out on loan again.

Below, MEN Sport has taken a close look at what they had to say on social media.
