Harry Redknapp urges Gareth Southgate to include Arsenal star in England World Cup squad

Arsenal star Emile Smith Rowe needs to be included in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the 2022 World Cup, says Harry Redknapp.

Smith Rowe, 21, has continued his rise this season with a string of impressive performances for Mikel Arteta’s side.

The midfielder’s opener in Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Brentford on the weekend marked his 10th goal across all competitions this term.

Smith Rowe has represented England at youth level, and made his senior debut for Southgate’s side during a 5-0 win over Albania in 2021.

Former Tottenham manager Redknapp feels he has a ‘huge future’ ahead of him and should make the squad for World Cup in Qatar later this year.

‘Another top performance [vs Brentford] and another goal for Emile Smith Rowe, the first Arsenal midfielder to score 10+ goals across all competitions in a single season since Aaron Ramsey in 2017/18. That’s some stat,’ Redknapp told BetVictor after including Smith Rowe in his Premier League team of the week.

‘He’s got a huge future ahead and has to be on that plane to Qatar.’

Meanwhile, Arteta has suggested he could use Smith Rowe in a new position for Arsenal – up front.

‘He can play as a left winger, he can play as a left attacking midfielder, right attacking midfielder and he can play as a nine — very, very well I think,’ said Arteta.
