Harry Maguire makes Manchester United dressing room admission after 'disappointing' season

Manchester United captain Harry Maguire has admitted that the dressing room is hurt following the conclusion of the 2022/23 campaign at Crystal Palace on Sunday.

United were beaten 1-0 at Selhurst Park, courtesy of a first-half goal from Wilfried Zaha, meaning they brought the curtain down on a forgettable campaign with another disappointing result. United struggled to contain Palace, particularly in the first half, and a lack of firepower at the other end of the pitch stopped them from securing a route back into the game.

However, despite being beaten by Patrick Vieira's side, United still did just enough to secure Europa League football, with West Ham United losing 3-1 to Brighton. Nevertheless, it is a massive underachievement for the club following a huge summer of spending almost 12 months ago.

United, who were watched by Erik ten Hag on Sunday, have ended the Premier League campaign with 12 defeats to their name and a goal difference of zero, highlighting their struggles this season. Although the character and mentality of the squad has been questioned throughout the campaign, captain Maguire, who was reinstated to the starting line-up at Selhurst Park, has admitted just how big a negative impact this season has had on the players.

On Instagram, Maguire posted: "Disappointing end to a season full of lows, we are so hurt with how this season has gone. The squad take full responsibility and we know that what we have shown is nowhere near good enough for this club.

"Time to go away, reflect and make sure we come back next season ready for the challenge. A huge thanks to the fans for sticking with us
