Harry Kane hunting Alan Shearer’s Premier League goal record after Tottenham heroics sink Man City

Harry Kane has reiterated his desire to break Alan Shearer's Premier League goal record.

The Tottenham striker is currently 87 behind Newcastle icon Shearer's leading mark of 260 top-flight strikes, sitting seventh in the all-time list on 173, two short of Arsenal legend Thierry Henry and four behind Frank Lampard's 177.

Kane has struggled for form and goals this season following a very public and failed push to join Manchester City last summer, but the England captain was back at his best at the Etihad on Saturday as Spurs grabbed a remarkable 3-2 victory with Kane scoring twice.

"I think it is there to be done," Kane told BT Sport's ‘What I Wore’ of beating Shearer's record.

"Obviously it is still 90-odd goals in there but it is definitely an aim to try and reach it, I feel like I've still got many more years of my career to go.

"Shearer was an incredible striker, an incredible No9 so even to be close now is great but for sure it is definitely something I want to try and achieve."
