Happy Gilmore 2 Officially Coming To Netflix, Time For Shooter McGavin To Shine

If you've ever read my work before, you know that I get irrationally excited over sports movies made in the 1990s. Today's edition includes the news that Netflix officially greenlit Happy Gilmore 2 with Adam Sandler reprising his famous bombastic golf character.

I've previously laid out my continuing love for the 1994 classic, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, which played an integral role in turning 5-year-old Dan into a Miami Dolphins fan.

I also extensively covered the 1996 cinematic masterpiece, Kingpin, which I both love and hate. It's hilarious, but the bowling scenes are not true to life. And I can say that because I'm a Connecticut State Bowling Champion (in the D division, but still).

So, when the news came that Happy Gilmore 2 is officially on the way, I jumped on the chance to write about the 1996 tour de force comedy, Happy Gilmore. No joke, I've watched the movie (for probably the 50th time) within the past two weeks, and it had nothing to do with anything other than pure love for the film.

There is so much to love, including the classic rivalry between Gilmore and Shooter McGavin. In fact, there's a Shooter McGavin account on X (formerly Twitter) that's one of the best accounts on the social media platform.

If I were producing the film, I'd lean heavily on Shooter McGavin as a dual lead. There are some times when an actor and a role are just so perfectly made for one another. It feels like Christopher McDonald was born to play McGavin.

It's one of those roles where I can't even see McDonald as a normal human anymore. He's simply Shooter McGavin. I have no idea if McDonald is actually good at golf, but I can only assume that he is.
