Hammers transfer news: Moyes will 'definitely' look to bring Lingard back to West Ham
Journalist Pete O’Rourke insists that West Ham United will almost certainly try to sign Jesse Lingard on a free transfer in the summer.
The Manchester United star has a contract that expires in the summer and there was interest in signing him from both Newcastle United and West Ham United in the January transfer window. He is valued at £18m by Transfermarkt.
The attacking midfielder has yet to make a Premier League start this season under both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick.
West Ham, of course, took Lingard on loan last season and he absolutely shined during his time at the London Stadium.
Across 16 games for the Hammers, he scored nine goals and laid on five assists in total, before returning to United.
He snubbed a move to the Hammers in the summer and was then blocked from making an exit in January, to the point where one has to wonder how he feels about his decision to remain at Old Trafford.
Tottenham Hotspur are also reported to have held talks with Lingard’s agents ahead of a potential summer move, hinting towards the fact that they would like to sign him on a free transfer.
Newcastle also made attempts to sign the England international in January but were knocked back, too, leaving Lingard to wait until the summer for an exit.
And O’Rourke insists that the Hammers will make an attempt to sign him when his contract expires at the end of the season. Michael Carrick, indeed, has hailed his former United team-mate as a “unique” presence in midfield.
Speaking to GiveMeSport, he said: “Lingard will be waiting until the summer to go on a free transfer and I’m sure West Ham will definitely be in the mix for him then.”
