Hamilton won Silverstone by driving 143mph on just 3 tyres & we still can't get over the footage

Lewis Hamilton is arguably the greatest name in the history of Formula One, and is eyeing up an eighth world title that would see him overtake Michael Schumacher’s total of seven.

It has been a difficult start to the 2022 season, however, as the Mercedes man has failed to win either of the opening two races, placing behind Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen in the Drivers’ Championship.

Despite this, the Brit can never be written off as he has shown thought his illustrious career in the sport.

One instance of this came at the 2020 British Grand Prix, where he would finish the race in first place with his front left tyre destroyed.

Hamilton started the race on pole and was expected to control the race, and it seemed all was going his way until it came to the closing laps.

With three laps to go, Hamilton’s Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas saw his front left tyre fail, allowing Verstappen to pinch second place.

Hamilton was then warned to preserve his tyres, but this proved to be too late as within seconds his front left tyre also failed.

Hamilton had a 30-second lead over Verstappen by the time the final lap came around, and despite a tense ending, the latter could only close the gap to six seconds, meaning the former would stagger to victory.

What made this feat even more incredible was that Hamilton still managed to reach speeds of 143mph with only three fully functioning tyres.

A dramatic ending to the race, showing the resilience Hamilton has and why you must never write him off as he chases title number eight.
