Hamilton Forge downs Supra du Quebec 1-0, advances to Canadian championship final

Hamilton Forge secured a berth in the Telus Canadian Championship final with a 1-0 win over Supra du Quebec on Tuesday.

Ben Paton scored for the Forge in the 26th minute. The first match of the two-legged semifinal ended in a 1-1 draw.

Supra mustered 12 shots to Hamilton's eight, including three on-target shots to the Forge's two. Hamilton carried a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.

CF Montreal hosts the Vancouver Whitecaps on Wednesday in the second game of their semifinal. The first ended in a 1-1 draw.

The winning team will host the Forge in the final Oct. 21.

The Telus Canadian Championship is the country's highest domestic knockout tournament with clubs competing for the Voyageurs Cup and a berth internationally in the CONCACAF Champions Cup.

Only the MLS clubs of Montreal, Vancouver and Toronto FC have lifted the Voyageurs Cup since a men's Canadian Championship was introduced in 2002.

The Whitecaps have won four Voyageurs titles in a row, including last year's 4-2 win over the CPL's Vancouver FC in the final.
