Hamilton 0, Motherwell 2: Well boss says his side have played better and lost

Motherwell head coach Paul Brownlie hailed his Women of Steel after a 2-0 derby win over Hamilton Women - but insists they can still do more.

Paige McAllister’s close-range finish in the first half put the away side ahead at New Douglas Park and Carla Boyce scored the winner after half-time.

Josi Giard netted a late Hamilton consolation after they hit the bar in the latter stages.

There was controversy earlier in the match after Tiree Burchill netted for Accies at 1-0 off the back of dispossessing ‘Well goalkeeper Kyhm Ramsay, but a foul was given.

Brownlie’s side are fifth in SWPL 1 following their second Lanarkshire derby win of the season but says there are parts of his side’s play he would like to see improve.

He said: “We are delighted with the three points we have got and ultimately that was the main objective for us.

“If I am being brutally honest, we’ve played better in some games and lost.

“We’ll take this. I think decisions all balance themselves out over the course of the season. It’s a sore one for Hamilton but these things happen.

“There’s a long way to go in this season and I have told the players that.”

Motherwell take on Hibs in SWPL 1 action tonight before facing Spartans this Sunday.

Brownlie added: “We will need to rest, analyse and recover from Hamilton.

“It will be a different ask playing Hibs. We will have to be at our best. So we are looking forward to it.”
