Rangers boss Gio van Bronckhorst has relied upon Alfredo Morelos to be his go-to man at the top of the pitch throughout the season at Ibrox.

The Colombian striker has 19 goals and eight assists in all competitions for the Gers and has been a constant threat in the Premiership and Europa League.

His supporting acts have struggled to oust him from his starting spot, with Kemar Roofe producing two goals and zero assists in seven league starts and Cedric Itten failing to provide a single goal contribution in four appearances in the Scottish top flight.

Roofe and Itten’s struggles to truly push Morelos for his place in the XI may force Ross Wilson to look into the transfer market to buy a player to compete for the number nine position. The Gers would benefit from having another regular scorer, both in terms of what it would mean for Van Bronckhorst’s options and the motivation it would provide the Colombian hitman to improve his own game.

Rangers can save themselves millions, though, if the Dutchman can convince talented youngster Rory Wilson to stay at Ibrox. The 16-year-old is out of contract this summer and Football Insider recently reported that he is attracting interest from the Premier League.

Van Bronckhorst must now do everything in his power to turn the situation around in order to secure the striker’s future at the club. If he is able to do so, the Gers may not need to splash the cash on a new centre-forward, as Wilson’s goalscoring record at youth level suggests that he has the potential to make his mark in the senior squad.

In all competitions this season, the 16-year-old has found the back of the net 40 times for Rangers’ youth teams and also on seven occasions for Scotland at under-17 level.
