'Gut feeling' - Football finance expert shares Man City 115 charges prediction

Manchester City could be left with a hefty fine but their place in the Premier League secure at the end of their hearing into their charges, according to a sport finance expert.

The club were charged by the Premier League in February 2023 with over 100 breaches of rules spanning more than a decade, the most serious of which are nearly ten years of misrepresenting their financial position in order to gain a sporting advantage. City deny all of the allegations, and were backed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport in 2020 when UEFA tried to throw them out of the Champions League following a similar investigation.

City's hearing in front of an independent panel is finally expected to get underway in September 2024, although Premier League chief executive Richard Masters could not confirm that a decision will be announced this season when recently asked. As the footballing world waits to see what consequences City will face, professor of applied sport finance at University Campus of Football Business (UCFB) Rob Wilson has shared his expectation of what will happen.

“We need to remember that they're all alleged charges. They've not been proven," Wilson told Android Poker Apps. "They probably sailed very, very close to the wind.

“My gut feeling is a significant sanction in terms of a financial penalty, a fairly big apology from City for not disclosing information when they should have done.
