Gullit hits out at Neville, Rio over early pressure on Ten Hag at Man Utd

Ruud Gullit fears that Erik ten Hag will not get enough time to succeed at Man Utd with Gary Neville and Rio Ferdinand already putting pressure on him.

Earlier this week Ten Hag was confirmed as the new permanent Man Utd manager with the current Ajax boss taking over at the end of the season.

The Red Devils lost 3-1 to Arsenal on Saturday which means they are now unlikely to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Several managers have tried and failed to get Man Utd challenging for the Premier League title again and Ten Hag will have a huge job on his hands.

His compatriot Gullit is worried that pressure is already building from Neville, Ferdinand and the media ahead of next campaign.

“I follow the media in England and I have already concluded that Ten Hag will not get the time to change things,” Gullit told the Daily Mirror.

“Rio Ferdinand has put the pressure on, Gary Neville has done it, all the papers will be onto him. I have lived and worked in England.”

Gullit is worried that Ten Hag won’t get enough time to turn things around with a report claiming current interim boss Ralf Rangnick is preparing a huge dossier on every individual player.

And former Netherlands international Gullt reckons it will be a “really, really difficult project” for Ten Hag.

“The first club all the media look at and talk about is United,” Gullit added.

“What United have done wrong is that when Man City and Liverpool made a change in their playing styles to a very attacking way, playing 4-3-3, pressing the opponent and using an aggressive style, United went the other way.
