Greater Manchester weather forecast for February as winds blow in to batter region

Buckle up, Greater Manchester is set to be battered by winter winds in the coming week.

Forecasters expect winds to hit 51mph by lunchtime on Friday (February 18), with the preceding days just as blustery.

The Met Office has also issued a yellow weather warning for wind on Wednesday and Thursday, covering the north of England and Scotland.

Monday

If you’re heading out with someone special for Valentine’s Day, don’t expect your hair to stay in place for long.

Winds will pick up from noon to around 25mph, which will stay in place until well into the evening.

Rain is expected in the morning too, but the chance of a downpour diminishes as darkness descends.

Temperatures will hit 7℃, with lows of 3℃.

Tuesday

Those winds from Monday will still be around, and actually quicken up.

By 9am, winds are expected to hit 28mph, reaching 29mph by noon. However, they will die down by the evening, albeit to a hardly-calm 14mph.

Tuesday is going to be a bit warmer than Monday as well. Highs of 8℃, and lows of 5℃.

Wednesday

We might as well rename Wednesday to ‘winds-day’ this week.

Gusts will howl in at 48mph by the evening, having built up from the night before throughout the day.

Still, temperatures will be very mild for the time of year, at 13℃, but you’ll probably still be cold with a wind chill in play.

A yellow weather warning is in force on this day.

Thursday

Same again, sadly. 48mph winds at noon, and it’s going to be colder, at 8℃, but these gales will largely calm down again by the evening.

Lows of 4℃.
