Greater Manchester fish and chip shop with queues down the street named one of UK's best

A Greater Manchester chippy has been named one of the best in the UK. The Bury fish and chip shop has been listed as one of the top 20 chip shops in the UK by the Guardian.

The much-loved chippy in Prestwich is the only chip shop in the North West to make the cut. It's joined on the list by seaside spots including Shakey Shakey in Ramsgate, Magpie Cafe in Whitby and Frankie's Fish and Chips in Shetland.

Chips @ No.8 has gone from strength to strength since opening in 2018, with queues often stretching out the door. The Greater Manchester eatery on Clifton Road has become a go-to spot for fish and chip fans and chefs from across the city, frying its fish and chips in beef dripping on request.

The Bury takeaway is known for its two-storey mural of Mark E. Smith of The Fall on the side of its building. It has plenty of awards to its name and even made it to the final 20 at last year’s National Fish and Chip Awards.

Earlier this year, the beloved Prestwich announced plans to expand after owners said the response to their food since opening had 'far exceeded' their wildest expectations. In January, the team at Chips @No.8 said they had been left with 'no choice' but to grow after an 'overwhelming' first six years in business.

Owner Dan Edwards announced that the much-loved restaurant and take-away would be moving into the premises next door - a move that he said would allow for greater menu choice, quicker serving times, and a beer while hungry punters wait.

Sharing their news on social media at the time, Dan wrote: "Finally, we can address the worst kept secret in P-Town’s history! Chips @ No.8 will be moving next
