Grand National 2023 Live: Results, winners, tips and betting odds as protest planned

The 2023 Grand National is set to be the biggest and best yet as today sees the 175th running of the famous race.

A maximum field of 40 will contest the the world's biggest steeplechase at Aintree, with today's race anticipated to be the most-watched Grand National in history.

A sell-out 70,000 crowd will pack out the stands, while up to 600 million viewers will tune in from around the globe to watch the four-mile, 30-fence race. Bookmakers expect more than £150million to be wagered on the National.

Much of that could be placed on Rachel Blackmore, who became the first woman to ride the winner of the world-famous race two years ago on Minella Times. This year, she rides Ain’t That A Shame for the same Henry de Bromhead stable. Ain’t That A Shame was a 22-1 chance with William Hill when Blackmore was confirmed on the horse on Wednesday. The odds have now been cut across the board and it's currently heading the market.

There is the threat of some disruption, after animal rights activists threatened to sabotage the race by forming a human barricade across the course. Police say they will deal "robustly" with any disruption caused by what is likely to be the most significant and potentially disruptive protests against the Grand National for many years.

Campaign group Animal Rising said up to 300 activists will attend the race from 9.30am on Saturday where they intend to prevent the race from starting. They will also block traffic by performing a slow march along Ormskirk Road, the main access route.
