Graham Potter refuses to backtrack on comments made after Lewis Dunk red card vs Manchester United

Graham Potter has doubled down on his emotional reaction to Lewis Dunk's red card in the defeat to Manchester United.

The Brighton defender hauled down Anthony Elanga at Old Trafford on Tuesday night and was originally shown a yellow card.

The United players surrounded referee Peter Bankes after the call was made and after the intervention of VAR, Dunk was eventually given his marching orders.

The Seagulls went on to lose 2-0 after Bruno Fernandes added to Cristiano Ronaldo's earlier strike.

Potter reacted furiously to the decision in his post-match press conference, though he's refused to backtrack on his initial thoughts.

"We don't always have to agree, it's a free world, we are entitled to our opinions and sometimes your opinion is a little emotional after the game," he said (via SussexLive).

"I don't take too much back. If the referee gave a red at the time, I wouldn't totally disagree with it or I could see why he would have given it.

"But when it was a yellow first, it didn't look like a clear and obvious one to change. But I could be wrong, it would not be the first time."

He continued: "It's frustrating to lose Dunky but it's part of life, part of football. We have to get on with it.

"I think the one thing we've done really well this season is adapt when people are away and we've had lots of different examples of players missing and being unavailable for different reasons.

"We have never used it as an excuse. We have just focused on the players that are available and worked with them as best we can to try and put a team out that is competitive and try to perform."
