Graeme Souness urges Arsenal FC outcast to follow Manchester United example

Graeme Souness has called on Aaron Ramsdale to follow the example set by Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay in getting his head down and fighting his way back into the Arsenal team.

Ramsdale, who was ever-present for Arsenal last season, hasn't started a Premier League match since the 3-1 win over Manchester United back in September. The 25-year-old has been limited to Carabao Cup appearances, having been dropped by Mike Arteta, who favours of summer signing David Raya.

It is a similar situation that both Maguire and McTominay found themselves in at United, with Erik ten Hag putting both up for sale over the summer and accepting a £30million bid from West Ham for the former. But amid a growing injury crisis and poor performances elsewhere, the pair have been among the team's best performers in recent weeks.

Whatever their respective futures hold, Maguire and McTominay can be commended for the way in which they have gone about being dropped. And Souness has urged Ramsdale to follow suit as he looks to reclaim the No.1 spot at the Emirates.

"The Arsenal goalkeeper has to show what he is made of and deal with the situation in which he finds himself," Souness wrote in his Daily Mail column. "Mikel Arteta fancies David Raya more than he does Ramsdale right now, but that can change.
