GPA turnover rises to over €9m

The Gaelic Players Association recorded a turnover of over €9 million in 2022 according to their annual report published today.

Almost 90% of their income comes in the form of state support or GAA funding.

The government issued grants worth €4.6m, an increase of €0.4m, while the GAA core funding amounted to €3.4m, again up on last year.

Commercial income was down on last year at €0.9m. A pre-tax loss of €206,000 was recorded for the trading year compared to 2021 surplus of €770,000. The GPA say an increase in operating costs led to this result.

Over 87% of expenditure was on player development or welfare programmes. A total of €3,4m, up 40% on 2021, was invested in the health, welfare and development of players.

The highest number of student scholarships was delivered by the GPA with over 800 male and female players benefitting.

Over 130 sought counselling through the GPA services, which included 800 sessions, while six individuals received residential counselling treatment funded by the organisation.

The body employs on average 10 staff with a total cost of €790,000. The total remuneration for "key management personnel" among their directors amounted to €225,000.

The GPA helped broker a new player charter which saw a guaranteed mileage rate for players as well as a number of improvement in relation to equality for female players.
