GPA stand-off continues as Wexford cancel press event

Wexford GAA have cancelled a planed media event as the standoff between the GPA and the GAA continues.

The event was set to feature manager Darragh Egan, as well as a number of senior hurlers, ahead of the Yellowbellies' clash with Cork this weekend in the Allianz League.

"It has now been decided to postpone the media interview opportunity aspect of the event," Wexford GAA said in a statement.

"This is due to the current GPA request to players for non-engagement with the media."

The CEO of the players organisation Tom Parsons confirmed on RTÉ's Allianz League Sunday that players would be willing to go as far as was needed in order to be "treated fairly" by Croke Park.

This led to a clarification from the GAA's director general Tom Ryan yesterday evening that the association would cover expenses for up to four training sessions per week, but nothing more.

The GPA says that this doesn't go far enough, with Parsons telling RTÉ Sport that players should never have to "pay to play" before adding that Croke Park should cover expenses that players incur for all sessions.

It remains to be seen whether a further commercial event, planned for next week, involving Niamh Collins, Seán Finn, Lee Keegan, and Amy Lee will go ahead.
