Goodwin departs Aberdeen after disastrous week

Aberdeen have confirmed the departure of manager Jim Goodwin "with immediate effect" as their disastrous week continued following a 6-0 Scottish Premiership loss to Hibernian.

On Monday night, the Dons suffered a humiliating 1-0 Scottish Cup defeat by junior side Darvel at Recreation Park.

Goodwin - a former Republic of Ireland international who became Aberdeen manager last February after three years in charge of St Mirren - saw things go from bad to worse as they were overran by Hibs on Saturday.

Josh Campbell laid the foundation for his hat-trick with a first-half brace before Elie Youan added another before the interval.

Kevin Nisbet - just 24 hours after dramatically turning down a move to Millwall - notched his eighth of the campaign after climbing off the bench before Campbell converted a penalty and Will Fish added a sixth.

Aberdeen fans made their feelings clear before the game after unfurling a banner that read 'Goodwin out'.

The club wasted little time in following that sentiment with Goodwin's departure confirmed almost instantly after full time.

"Following an unacceptable run of results since the World Cup break, the Club confirms it has parted company with Jim Goodwin and first team assistant manager Lee Sharp with immediate effect," a statement read.
