Gleeson handed new two-year term with Antrim

Former Tipperary goalkeeper Darren Gleeson will stay in charge of the Antrim senior hurling team for at least two more years.

In recent weeks Portroe man Gleeson was linked with other managerial positions like the vacant Waterford role.

But it was always understood there was every chance Gleeson would remain with Antrim and continue their development.

He will now stay with the Saffrons for the 2023 and 2024 seasons.

An option for a third-year extension has also been agreed.

"Darren and his team have made fantastic strides in his current term, and we look forward to playing in Division 1 of the Hurling league and in the Leinster Championship in 2023," said Antrim GAA.

Gleeson led the county to Joe McDonagh Cup wins in 2020 and this year again when they beat Kerry in an exciting final.

His side have shown impressive conditioning levels as they try to make up ground on the counties above them.

In this year's Allianz League campaign, they showed up well in many games and were unlucky that some results narrowly went against them.

"Darren is staying to help Antrim reestablish itself as one of the top counties in Ireland and we look forward to continuing the good work over the next two years," Antrim GAA chairman Ciarán McCavana told RTÉ Sport today.
