‘Gives you inspiration’ - Tommy Doyle hails Man City Treble winners ahead of England U21s Euros

Manchester City midfielder Tommy Doyle says he has received inspiration from seeing the first-team win a historic Treble this season ahead of England’s Under-21s Euros campaign.

The 21-year-old helped Sheffield United to Championship promotion during his year-long loan at Bramall Lane, having to sit out their FA Cup semi-final defeat to City at Wembley due to competition rules.

Doyle, who has two years left on his Blues contract, played 38 times for the Blades, scoring four goals and assisting seven more. He and City senior star Cole Palmer have been included in Lee Carsley’s squad for England Under-21s European Championship campaign in Georgia and Romania this summer.

Speaking ahead of Thursday’s opener against the Czech Republic, Doyle detailed how he has been given a second wind by his parent club’s success.

“It’s massive to see and gives you inspiration as well to go on to win and get yourself in that team as well to enjoy success,” he said, as per Irish News.

“It was special. Of course you want to be there as well and be involved but you have to respect where you’re at at this moment.

“I was 110 per cent focused on Sheffield United and what I needed to do there but, as well as a player of City, I’m a fan as well so I was always watching. I had my fan hat on more because I was at a different club.

“It’s massive for the club. They deserved it, they were brilliant and when it got to the business end they stepped up another level.”
