Gillingham to take on Tonbridge Angels in the DFDS Kent Senior Cup second round in November

A date has been set for Gillingham’s match against Tonbridge Angels in the Kent Senior Cup.

The Gills will head to Tonbridge’s Longmead Stadium on Tuesday, November 15 (7.45pm), for their second round tie in the county competition. Both teams were handed a bye in round one.

Jay Saunders’ Tonbridge side sit 9th in National League South and this season they are playing on a brand new 3G pitch.

Gillingham were beaten in the second round of the competition last season, losing to Margate on penalties, who were then also managed by Saunders.

The Gills have won the Kent senior competition twice, but haven’t lifted the trophy since 1948 when they beat Gravesend & Northfleet infront of a 12,000-strong crowd at Maidstone. Wally Akers won the match with a late goal.

Their only other win came two years earlier, in 1946, beating 12th ITC (Canterbury) 5-1. They did make it to the final in 2015 but lost at Priestfield to Charlton Athletic.

Dartford are the current holders of the Kent Senior Cup after beating Folkestone Invicta in the final.

Kent Senior Cup round two draw: Ebbsfleet v Dartford, Chatham v Dover, Welling v Sittingbourne or Sevenoaks, Margate v Sheppey, Cray Valley v Bromley, Corinthian or Hythe v Maidstone, Beckenham or Ramsgate v Herne Bay, Tonbridge v Gillingham.
