Gillingham sign former Bournemouth, Blackburn and Millwall winger Connor Mahoney on loan from Huddersfield Town

Gillingham have strengthened their attacking options with the signing of a winger – one who’s played under the manager before.

It’s an area manager Neil Harris felt his side lacked and has turned to Huddersfield’s 26-year-old forward Connor Mahoney. The former England under-20 player joins on a season-long loan.

Mahoney, who can play on either flank, adds to the Millwall connections at the club, having played for the Londoners between 2019 and 2022.

Harris has made eight signings in the window is is now content.

The player should be available for the weekend League 2 match against Colchester United if paperwork is filed in time.

Blackburn-born Mahoney, started out with local club Accrington before a move to his hometown side Rovers, who he supports, 10 years ago.

He joined Bournemouth in 2017, for an initial tribunal fee of £425,000, but never made a first-team appearance in the Premier League for Eddie Howe’s side. He went on loan to Barnsley and then Birmingham, where he was voted young player-of-the-year in their 2018/19 Championship season.

Millwall, who were managed by Harris at the time, signed
