Gillingham seek another opinion over injury to striker Josh Andrews –The former Birmingham City man has yet to play a league game since his move at the start of the month

Gillingham are seeking further investigation into an injury that is keeping January transfer-window signing Josh Andrews sidelined.

Andrews arrived from Birmingham City with a hip injury, which he had just seen the back of, only to then pick up a muscle strain as he prepared to make himself available for the Gills in League 2.

An appearance for the B Team last week should have been the final step of his recovery but the extent of an injury he suffered in that game remains unclear.

Boss Stephen Clemence was hoping to deliver some news on the progress at the weekend but more investigation is needed.

Clemence said: “He has an ultrasound scan now (this week) because the symptoms he is feeling aren’t too bad but one of the scans says it looks quite bad.

“We are getting another scan, another opinion, just to see where we are at and we will get that this week.

“It’s frustrating for the boy, he’s definitely frustrated, but we will keep him going. He’s going to be a good signing for this football club.”

The Gills have already lost another of their recent attacking signings with Jorge Hurtado back at Watford after a serious knee injury, having made just three substitute appearances.

With Andrews out, the Gills remain light in attack having let Lewis Walker, Tom Nichols and Macauley Bonne leave. Bonne went to join former boss Neil Harris at Cambridge United on loan but Clemence confirmed the striker won’t be returning.

“I don’t think Macauley will be coming back, no.” he said, when asked.

Gills’ other attacking signing, Josh Walker, was an unused substitute at the weekend. He’s on loan from League 1 Burton Albion.
