Gillingham manager Gareth Ainsworth reacts to 1-0 win at Oldham Athletic in League 2
Gillingham boss Gareth Ainsworth insisted his side "found a way" to record their first away win of the season on Saturday.
The Gills went top of League 2 after substitute Sam Vokes' second-half winner at Oldham secured a 1-0 success.
The game was played in heavy rain throughout and the hosts missed a couple of good openings.
But, as Ainsworth pointed out, the Gills were clinical when it mattered.
"We found a way today and that's a sign of a good side," said Ainsworth.
"We probably got away with a couple of chances from Oldham. They've got to stick them in the goal - they missed from a yard and then they (hit) the side netting a couple of times.
"But when we were asked to, we hit the target and Sam's scored a lot of goals in his career - all he needs is one chance.
"We didn't seem at it as we have been at times, but we found a way and that's brilliant.
"I'm really pleased because we rolled our luck at times, but you've got to stick the ball in there and that's what Sam did."
Ainsworth admitted he needed to change shape to get back into the game after a strong start to the second half from Oldham.
Within minutes of switching to 4-3-3, Vokes had nodded them in front.
"They had a decent attacking threat with Quigley, with his headers and they probably adapted to the conditions a little bit better than us in the second half, especially.
"I think the first half, there was absolutely nothing in the game. In the second half, I thought the first 20 minutes, they really came at us.
"Micky (Mellon, Oldham manager) changed formation at half-time slightly and they were rolling inside a little bit and that caused a few problems.
"So, I changed our formation. I went to a 4-3-3, thinking that we may be able to get more pressure higher
