Gillingham have been drawn at home to League 1 side AFC Wimbledon in the First Round of the Carabao Cup

Gillingham will be at home in round one of the Carabao Cup.

The Gills have been drawn against last season’s League 2 play-off winners AFC Wimbledon.

The Dons won promotion after beating Walsall in the play-off final at Wembley.

Gillingham were beaten in the first round of the competition last season away to Swansea City.

The year before they beat Southampton at Priestfield in the first round before playing at Luton in round two and losing 3-2.

Wimbledon are one of manager Gareth Ainsworth’s former teams and he’ll be coming up against another, Wycombe Wanderers, in the EFL Trophy.

The League Cup draw took place on Thursday on the same day that the fixtures for the new season were released. The Gills will play Accrington Stanley away on the opening weekend.

First round Carabao Cup games take place on the week commencing August 11.

Gillingham’s group stage opponents in the EFL Trophy have also been revealed, with Fulham under-21s drawn along with Wycombe and Colchester.
