Gillingham defender Shad Ogie reacts to a 1-1 draw at Tranmere Rovers and praises captain Max Ehmer’s role

Defender Shad Ogie praised the performance of Gillingham captain Max Ehmer after picking up a point at Tranmere.

In a battle between two teams low on confidence, the points were shared at Prenton Park in a 1-1 draw.

Ogie’s central-defensive team-mate Ehmer was on hand to make some important interceptions during the match.

“(He was) flipping outstanding,” said the 23-year-old Irishman.

“It's a pleasure to play alongside a player like him.

“He always digs me out when I'm in trouble. You can't really ask for a better centre-half.”

Gillingham lacked the quality needed to win the game but the point ended a run of four straight defeats.

It was a busy day for the defence, blocking nine of the 20 attempts from the hosts, with only five on target.

Ogie said: “I feel like as a team collectively, Robbie (McKenzie) as well, it's not really his main position (as the third centre-half), but he did really well.

“Of course, results haven't gone our way, but we're just chipping away at it. We could have done more, but we settled for a point.

“It's never easy away from home and trying to win a game of football but to take a point just gives the fans something.

“The game was tough. Either side could have won the game, but us as a team, we've done really well, especially in the last 10-15 minutes, just to not let them score, really.

“It's not easy winning a game of football, especially with the run that we've had. A point is something that we'll take and try and motivate us then to kick on from, because we've got to get another game on Tuesday. Just try and kick on from there and try and get three points Tuesday.”
