Gillingham defender Conor McManus called up to the Republic of Ireland under-21 squad for Euro 2027 qualifiers against Slovakia, Kazakhstan and England

Gillingham defender Conor McManus has been called up for international duty.

McManus has been selected in the Republic of Ireland under-21 squad for their upcoming Euro 2027 qualifiers.

He is set to join up with his international team-mates next week, which should mean he’s available for this weekend’s game against Bristol Rovers.

McManus will be in the under-21 squad for games against Slovakia, Kazakhstan and England before returning to Gillingham ahead of their game against Rotherham United on October 10.

The Gills head to York City and then host Newport County at the start of October, two matches he’ll miss.

McManus joined the Gills on a permanent deal from Brentford in the summer.

His chance in the team came early on when an injury to Kadeem Harris meant he was picked to fill the void at left wing-back, and he’s played there ever since.

The Irish defender is playing in the Football League for the first time this season, and now has five league appearances behind him, starting Gillingham’s last four games.

He scored his first senior goal in Gills’ 1-1 draw with Northampton Town last month.
